At Alpha, we believe your health shouldn’t automatically mean high premiums or complicated questions. That’s why we use our own in-house medical screening system, Protectif Medical Risk Rating.

What is Protectif?

Protectif is a bespoke medical screening tool used by both our customer service centres and online quote journey. It asks clear, relevant questions about your health to help us assess your medical situation fairly and accurately — avoiding a “one-size-fits-all” approach. With over 11,000 conditions in its database, Protectif provides a more personal assessment and, where possible, a fairer premium.
The Protectif team works with specialists and medical charities to ensure the systemwe stays up to date with modern medicine and research.

Accurate Health Evaluation: Our questions focus on your overall wellbeing and condition stability, not just a diagnosis name — giving a fairer, more common-sense assessment for your travel insurance quote.

Medication First: Unlike other medical screening tools, Protectif starts by asking about your medication, helping to identify all conditions and ensuring nothing important is missed. This also provides essential information should you need medical help abroad.

Simple Process: In order to complete your medical screening ,just enter your medications and then your conditions when prompted during your quote journey. The system will guide you through each step, and if needed, help is available via Live Chat or by contacting us between 8am–6pm (Mon–Fri) and 9am–5pm (weekends). You can also book a callback at a time that suits you.

After you’ve completed your quote, we’ll send you a summary of the questions and your answers. If anything changes medically before you travel, or you notice an error, please contact us to update your details.
